Salutation To The Dawn

Look to this day:
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities
And realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth,
The glory of action,
The splendour of beauty.

For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision;
And today, well-lived, makes
Every yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well therefore to this day!
Such is the Salutation to the Dawn.

Kalidasa (Indian poet c. 4th century AD)

I remember this poem from long ago, thanks for reminding me Robert.

My father used to quote something like "Today is the tomorrow you thought about yesterday" Robert.
This is such a beautiful poem - I have read it before and it sometimes crops up on our poetry afternoons.
It is so easy to forget that each day matters rather than looking to what you are going to do tomorrow or what you did yesterday.

It's wonderful, isn't it? And inspired me to write my own poem today.
