Been to Turnstone - read the beautifully written paragraph. Been to Amazon - order the book!

Sounds just up my street.

(Solitary, know this isn't the right place, but couldn't get this comment to publish on Turnstone.)

How amazing—I've never come across anyone who's read Cees Nooteboom's wonderful Spain book, which I picked up on a whim in the mid-90s and enjoyed immensely. It's now the one I've since come to judge almost every subsequent travel book against. Not many come anywhere close, either. I loved the whimsical way he poked around the country, scribbling in his little notebook, revealing all sorts of sidelines of the places and history in such a neat way. It was one of those books I never wanted to finish because I liked it so well. I'm really glad to learn he has a new one to read.

I think you would like it, Pat... and Grizz, yes, it's a really satisfying book, but it seems to demand I read it quite slowly. There's a lot of detail to absorb.

I think you may like Gerald Brenan's book on Spain, too — 'South from Granada'.
