Rare Fruits And Solitaires

For more than forty years I've been making notes and collecting quotes, picking gems from the word-hoard and plucking rare fruits from the bountiful cornucopia of literature. I'd love to share some of these with you; so, from now on, I'll be renewing on a weekly basis the quotations which appear just below my blog header. I hope you enjoy these ever-changing solitaires.

Looking forward to your special solitaires. My favorites from prior blogs are in my daily journal. I live in Florida and Vermont and your blog is my way of staying in touch with nature and literature.

It's a strange thing. I am reading more and longer books one after another than ever. Yet I am appreciating short blog posts. :) So I will continue to check out your revolving quotes.

I really like the current one:

Very few genuine words are exchanged in a day, really very few. Perhaps we only fall in love in order finally to begin to speak. Perhaps we only open a book in order finally to begin to hear. CHRISTIAN BOBIN

May I share one of my own in response to it?

Epitaph

Father, forgive this man.
He never listened to your song
till it was all but done
then found he couldn’t sing the words
so he spoke the tune.

Glenday, John, Grain

Could we possibly have a clue to where you header is?

Are you going to archive them in an accessible place(e.g., as a page or as a "footer", like Poet in Residence? http://poet-in-residence.blogspot.co.uk/ )? It would be good to be able to refer back to them. I'm a sucker for good quotes.

I look forward to this, Robert. I really like the Bobin quote that is currently posted beneath your header.

The quotations will always be placed between the blog title and the latest post, Pat (Weaver of Grass).

Your reading sounds exciting, Ruth. Perhaps we shall both finish 'War and Peace' and 'In Search of Lost Time' one day? :) I'm ashamed to say I had not heard of the Scottish poet John Glenday. You've really put me on to something here.

That Bobin quote is great, isn't it? It comes from a wonderful little book called 'The Very Lowly: a Meditation on Francis of Assisi'. He's a writer whom bog friend Dritanje (Morelle) recommended.

Good idea, Sackerson (Dominic). I'll archive them in a new page called 'Quotations' on the rhs of my blog.

Glad you like the idea, George. I've got books and books of these things, and it will be a joy to unearth some of them.
