A Glass Of Rainwater, Please!

Empty street café scene in the Rúa Mayor, Santiago... Could it be raining, I wonder?

By the way, if you visit YouTube, and search for 'spanishmeseta', you'll be able to see the larger, slightly sharper YouTube versions of my last 3 Vía de la Plata videos...

And, also by the way, I've just made a hearty chorizo, chickpea and lentil soup. You don't think I might be yearning again for Spain already, do you..?

Does this mean you have finally rejected food colouring and preservatives in water masquerading as soup in a can?

A good reason to celebrate your trip to Spain.

Gleaner, I have always, well, often, made my own soups - check back on this blog for evidence!!!

It was the chorizo a few hours ago that had the effect of Proust's madeleine cake...

Ok...as a foodie...here's a thought post the recipe! Hmm actually, now although I'm just back from a Chinese New Year banquet..you've got me thinking about lunch tomorrow...just trying to calculate where I might get my hands on chorizo....

Fry 100 gm chopped up chorizo in olive oil for a few min, then add a chopped up onion. Soon add 2 diced carrots and 2 diced celery sticks. 5 min later add 1 or 2 tsp paprika and a pinch of chilli flakes. Then add a 400 gm can of chickpeas (or dried chickpeas which have been soaked overnight) and same amount of lentils plus 750 gm of chicken stock. Simmer for 25 min.

Mine was OK - but I used cheat chicken stock from a stock cube, so you miss out on some depth of flavour. In Spain they would always do this soup with proper stock which would give the dish a much more flavoursome, oily richness.

Chorizo is easily available in all UK supermarkets, but don't know about the US! (Try any spicy sausage - though I think the Spanish chorizo is pretty unique.)

:) Sorry if I offended you SW, it was not intended - you've mentioned canned soup a few times lately. Sometimes I read back on my comments and find they don't exactly convey the tone or spirit of my intended comment. A skill I'm still developing.

Thanks for the recipe, I'm going to make some later today.

You didn't offend me in the slightest, Bella! I loved your humorous comment. Likewise - sorry if my own response made me appear that I was offended. It was supposed to be equally light-hearted. Oh dear, let's stop this else we'll get tied up in knots :)

I'm thinking I might do more food stuff on this blog, as I really like cooking. Even made a loaf of bread yesterday! Went beautifully with some grilled fish, caper sauce and a Greek salad... (Yum!)

That would be a marvellous idea!

I enjoy cooking too and would so love to sample recipes from all over the world.
