A Case Of You
(Sung by Diana Krall. Lyrics by Joni Mitchell.)
Just before our love got lost you said
I am as constant as a northern star
I said, constantly in the darkness, where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar
On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue tv screen light
I drew a map of canada oh canada
With your face sketched on it twice
Oh you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
And still be on my feet I'd still be on my feet
Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those who who ain't afraid
I remember the time you told me
Love is touching souls, surely you touched mine
Part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, I could drink a case of you darling
And still be on my feet, and still be on my feet
I met a woman, she had a mouth like yours
She knew your life, she knew your devils and your deeds
She said go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed
Oh you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and you taste so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you darling
And still be on my feet, I'd still be on my feet

One of my favourite songs - I like the version sung by Joni herself - but Diana Krall is great too
. . . but be prepared to bleed . . . a case of you . . . still I'd be on my feet, still . . .
Consistently thought provoking. Thankyou.
I've always loved Joni's 'Blue' album and listen to it yet with wonder and appreciation. (And so many other great records came out around that time.) She can't do much wrong as far as I'm concerned. I love her even more jazzy and 'experimental' stuff too (and of course the confessional 'Blue' was pretty ground-breaking in its day.) 'Hejira' I still find astounding. I think Diana Krall's version here is terrific - it brings out a soulful, jazzier potential, and shows both melancholy and strength at the same time.
'Blue' one of my all-time favourites too.

Nice, I'd not heard this before.
One of my favorite singers. Diana Krall can almost always pull some new and good from a song, no matter whether it's old or not so old. (We're not going to think of Joni as "old," right?)
Good to see you posting again.
Holy wow! That's moving. The piano sings, too. Thanks so much. Brings back 1971 as nothing else can. So bitter and so sweet.
