Oh yes to the Dixie Chicks! That song is one of my all time favorites! Enjoying the count down immensely, Karin

This countdown is a bit depressing Robert - can we have a cheerful day please?

Weaver, oh Weaver, you'll just have to wait and see what happens...

Lol - I have to agree with Weaver - this countdown is a little depressing and I can't imagine how you can add anything even remotely cheerful now. Although there is still 15 more songs, so maybe...

Gleaner - the idea is to create a kind of musical anti-Advent calendar, a modern-day Pilgrim's Progress. We're still enduring 'The Dark Night Of The Soul' - but, believe me, the quest may lead to grace and redemption as we get nearer to Christmas.

Don't you perhaps find the music counterbalances any negativity - that it's uplifting rather than depressing?

I think all these challenging states - exile, separation, rejection, guilt and so on - are part and parcel of our lives - big parts, important parts - and I'm just trying to deal with them here, as we all must.

Joy and sorrow, hope and despair, depression and exhilaration, positive and negative - the yin and yang of life...

Isn't it an Advent Calendar, rather than an anti-Advent Calendar? Advent is a penitential season focussing on the Four Last Things - Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell. Most of the time in contemporary society it is cast aside in favour of kitsch commercialism.

Absolutely right, Andy. And thanks very much for this comment. What I'm trying to do is just that. Trying to get back to real Advent marker stones - uncomfortable though they may be - and trying to get away from the superficial, the sentimental, the feel-good, lazy, commercial kitsch that Advent has sadly become entangled in.

Yes I do agree SW - I have to admit though, I had never heard of an Advent calender to about 3 years ago !! and had to ask about it as they were for sale everywhere and everyone seemed to act as if they had been around since their childhood!

Okay, I'm taking this pilgrims walk!
