Congratulations to Spain! Spain throroughly deserved to win tonight - morally, aesthetically and technically. Elegant skill won out, thank goodness, against cynical brute force. It's Spain's summer - for, of course, the Majorcan tennis player, Rafael Nadal, became, for the second time, Wimbledon men's singles champion. Olé!

Tennis, soccer, holy years...what's next, World Domination? Oh wait, been there done that! Actually enjoyed watching and seeing them win. Viva Espana!
But then, today, Andy Schleck stole a march on Alberto Contador... Vill gléck Andy Schleck! (Schwatzt du Letzebuergesch? I don't).
It's complete pandemonium here, Robert, as you may well guess. Like the wet blanket that I tend to be, I am at home alone listening to all the car honking, fireworks, screaming and general bedlam going on outside. I do think they have played the best football of the World Cup and are deserving winners. The winning goal was scored by Andrés Initesta, a local boy from the town of Fuentealbilla here in Albacete, where I live.
It seems to be a winning season for Spain. Everything seemed to stop for three hours as the world gathered around their television sets to watch the game. The portions of it that I saw seemed to be more about tripping opponents than playing soccer! Wonder how long the partying will last in Spain.
