Hey, That's My Kind Of Music! (10)

This video brings to an end my short series Hey,That's My Kind Of Music! Music, for me, is one of those miracles that lifts life from the mundane to the realm of the spirit, and makes life's misfortunes and calamities a little easier to bear. As you've seen, my tastes in music are eclectic, ranging from jazz and classical to country and contemporary. But, in the end, I always come back to folk and roots music, traditional music, ethnic music, world music, soul music, music of the people. Here's the Irish folk and traditional singer Karan Casey giving a rendition in Gaelic of the song Sweet Comeraghs.

all your kind of music is always the extraordinary kind. When the music has an element of passion that always seems to be offered freely, it seems the theme is that of devastating pain the songs originated from but the offering is healing.

like I my other comment mentions, I am extremely impressed when a person who suffered that pain does not take the easy way out (which is actually harder in the long run because it always boomerangs back to again hard hit the thrower)

thank you for this series of your posts. That is one amazing family

Loved the music! This is, indeed, the music of the earth, the music that has sustained people through the centuries. Thanks for sharing.

All of your selections are music that arises from the depths and longings of the human heart. I've been introduced to new artists if not new forms and loved the experience. Thanks Robert.

Really beautiful, Robert. I agree that world music, the music of the people, is just the best, especially when it arises from pain, as Dusti (who) says. I am fascinated by folk musical instruments, and I love seeing the clàrsach, the Gaelic harp, such a beautiful shape and so recognizably Irish. I've spent many weeks in Ireland for a few years with study abroad students, and I've come to love it as my own, even though I claim no Irish heritage. I think there is something about the Irish that all people relate to universally who wish to rise above the circumstances they are given. Such positive people.

I've enjoyed your music series very much. It's a great idea for revealing something of yourself to your blog friends.

Very beautiful and pure. The musicians all look so lost in the music. Which I was too, even though I do not understand the words.

Glad everyone enjoyed the series. I chose 10 pieces but I could have chosen 10,000. Although they are all disparate, I think they were all written and sung/performed straight from the heart. Yes, heart and soul music - that's my kind of music!
