At the summit there's another pilgrimage station ...
... and the supposed site of St Patrick's bed. Even on the Camino I don't think I've ever seen such an uncomfortable looking bed ...
There's also this ruined shelter ...
... and this chapel, sorely in need of a lick of paint. Though, on second thoughts, I'm sure it looks better this way - more in keeping with the weather-beaten landscape ...
Peering down from the stony summit, you can see a mosaic of medieval green fields at the edge of Clew Bay. Forty shades of green ..?
This viewpoint is simply heaven on earth ...
Back at base, here's a shrine to Our Lady Queen of Peace next to the car park ...
Croagh Patrick soars behind the Blessed Virgin ...

Thank you very much for these views Robert: now I know what it looks like. They did tell me it was a spectacular view on a fine day. As for me, I had the weatherbeaten kind of experience. The fog was so thick that I didn't even know I had reached the top, until people told me I had when I reached this chapel!
The view from the summit is just stunningly beautiful. I always feel compelled to stay as long as possible once getting to the top of such a place, regretting having to go back down if I'm not quite ready.
What a viewpoint! I also love that the chapel, which is inviting because of its very desolation.
I saw Croagh Patrick from a distance when staying in Mayo a few years ago. Have to admit I hadn't heard of it then and was amazed to suddenly see a pyramid! So it's really interesting to see your walk to the summit and the views around.
That has to be one of the most memorable paths I have seen in all of your walking.

The light on that day was certainly among the best this earth has to offer.
Glad everyone enjoyed this vicarious walk up the sacred mountain. For me, it was one the best parts of the whole Irish trip and, as am says, the light was heaven-sent. I will just never forget the light, and the views, that day.
I have trouble at the summit not knowing how to follow all those rules. The bed does not offer comfort but the view is spectacular, truly breathtaking! The chapel looks perfect as it stands. Great photos, thanks Robert.
