Doddington Hall

Yesterday we went to Doddington Hall near Lincoln. My new Sony NEX-5N camera had just arrived and I was keen to play with it. Carmen had a major operation a few weeks ago (she's fine) and couldn't walk very far, so I left her drinking hot chocolate in the café (she was quite willing) and pottered about the estate for half an hour.

Doddington Hall . . .

. . . was built in 1595 . . .

. . . by foremost Elizabethan architect, Robert Smythson.

Carved detail above the doorway of the Church of St Peter, Doddington.

I walked a short way through the estate . . .

. . . to this fishpond . . .

. . . spanned by a Japanese-style bridge.

Six silvery-green poplars . . .

. . . waved and shimmered in the light breeze.

Organically grown fruit . . .

. . . and vegetables for sale in the farm shop.

You had me at Doddington Hall's grounds, pond and poplars. But piles of organic fruit and veggies in all their colorful grandeur? That is truly icing on the cake.

Gorgeous photos with your new camera.

Wonderful photos, Robert, and I'm delighted that you have finally found a new camera that you like. Doddington Hall appears to be quite an interesting place.

Well you sure found some very lovely spots to capture and present them in brilliant ways.
I guess you may have shopped for a few organic items before heading home.

Those first photos were taken hurriedly, and in automatic mode, but I was quite pleased how they turned out after a bit of editing. I want to develop shooting with manual settings soon, and in RAW rather than JPEG, so that I can see what the camera's capable of.

Didn't do any shopping on that occasion, KleinsteMotte, but normally we do!

Enjoyed your photos. Looks good. Can't beat a good tearoom where these places are concerned - particularly if you're not feeling up to much. Tend to gravitate to the NT ones as we're members.

The tearoom there is excellent, Dominic, with every sort of tea and coffee on offer, plus wine and premium bottled beers, ciders and soft drinks, and a food menu which includes local and seasonal cuisine such as Lincolnshire sausage and venison.

And thus begins a love affair that is sure to endure and flourish. Enjoy! Nina (my NEX) is never far from my side. In fact, I've never left the house without her in the last six months...

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions about settings etc.

Thanks, Goat. Who needs a girlfriend, eh?
