Love this post, Robert, because it resonates on several levels. I like the paintings, especially the Franz Marc. Marc's paintings are also favorites of Margaret, who studied in Munich, and who is especially fond of Der Blaue Reiter group. As to Hokusai, he was a favorite of Henry Miller.

For what it's worth, one of Marc's "Blue Rider" paintings — I think it's "The Tower of Blue Riders" — is featured on the cover of Mary Oliver's new collection, "Blue Horses."

That's interesting, George. I, too, love Japanese art and German Expressionism. The latter I studied as a student (Expressionist poetry and painting) and it's a fascinating subject. I'd forgotten Hokusai was a favourite of Miller's.

I love Hokusai, and I wasn't familiar with Marc. How lovely.

The thing about snow is that usually it disappears before it has time to be other than perfect. (unless of course one lives above the arctic circle).
