Tintagel To Port Isaac

From this wilder, North Cornish section of the path, you could see many more rock stacks and tiny islands ...

This is the castle at Tintagel, supposedly the birthplace of the legendary King Arthur ...

I deviated from the official route so that I could visit Tintagel's isolated parish church, which stands on windswept high ground to the south of the village ...

And so I continued, each day with its own little difficulties and its own little joys, its own little problems and its little own epiphanies ...

Here I'm leaving Trebarwith Strand on the way to Port Isaac ...

I stumbled on your blog and stayed for a while. I love your pictures. I live in the desert (New Mexico, US). So I love being near the water, if only through photos.

Thank you so much.

Love Tintagel Robert - apart from that really scary little bridge over to the castle. I really must visit Cornwall and Devon again, it is years since I was there.

I'm glad this post lifted your spirits a little, George. Not the easiest weekend for you. You take care.

I remember the church at Tintagel, c. 1986. It had such an odd atmosphere of being remote and yet friendly and spiritual. Glad to be reminded of it.

It's much easier for a man than a woman to go on these lone journeys in the countryside. I'd love to be able to do that, but get worried there might be strange people around - it's practically always women who are attacked in lone places. A woman friend of mine doesn't mind at all tramping round the countryside on her own (is now gradually going from Land's End to John O'Groats!)- in fact she says she's a bit worried that she's completely unafraid! Of course I could don a false beard but I'd feel a bit too odd...!

Very good blogs about your travels.

Thanks Tramp and Vivien. I went into the church and spent a lovely and peaceful 20 minutes there. Solo women do do long treks, as you say - in fact, the more of them who do this, the safer it is for everyone. However, fear of attack or predation by some weirdo male is very much in the mind, which plays up and exaggerates our fears. It doesn't square with the statistics; the chance of this happening is very remote. Err, I think donning a false beard would be taking things just a little too far..!
