Every day I like ideally to walk a little, read a little, write a little, blog a little, cook a little, garden a little, meditate a little, love a little and eat a little Marmite. Oh, and learn a new word in French. It helps me keep sane and focused in an increasingly mad world.

Turnstone seeking sustenance in a shell.

A new month, a new beginning. A fresh intention is to enter on my Turnstone blog any striking, meaningful, illuminating, witty or inspiring phrase, line, poem or passage I've come across in my daily reading. Or perhaps something I've heard on the radio or eavesdropped in the street. You can click here for these small revelations.

Definition of 'turnstone': a migratory shorebird of the plover family that turns over stones in search of food.

Sounds like you lead the eptiome of the good life.

I like to do this, I try to do this, Rubye, but this paradigm is just that: a paradigm. Notice I said 'ideally'. Much of my life — like much of everyone else's — is anarchy and chaos. Note too the sentiment of my blog strap line!

Oh, and the mention of Marmite at the end was supposed to diffuse any earnestness..!

It’s funny that you said “learn a new word in French” as just before reading your post I read a post by a guy in Washington who posts a new French word every day. Unfortunately he makes mistakes, misspelling them or writing them ungrammatically, such as in English “I have 2 childs, a daughter and a boy.” I wrote a comment to correct his French – but he did not like it and left the incorrect word as it… ah well as I read somewhere else – people do whatever they want with their blogs and they sure have the right to be writing French the way they wish and I have the right not to go back to their blog.
You accomplish a lot in your day. Today I watched the Tour de France on TV, I made French toasts for breakfast, then I spent one hour reading and almost as long just starring into space, doing nothing. But the day is young here still, it’s not 17 hour yet.

That's a new definition for me, "turnstone". I have never even heard the word before, come to think of it.

Oh well, unfortunately some people just can't stand being corrected, Vagabonde! C'est la vie.

I often feel I accomplish very little in my day, actually. An hour staring into space sounds quite attractive — and fruitful. I may add that to my list.

Glad to add a new word to your vocabulary, Jenny! Now, I must look it up in French...

Your cooking skills have spread far and wide and your imaginative cooking has reached me.

Ah, Pat, perhaps you refer to Dominic's surprise visit when I was in the middle of preparing a Lebanese meal? Either that or you've heard about my Marmite on toast.

I like to putt around, too. Perhaps I'll add learning a word of French to my putting.

'Putter around" ('potter about" — UK) = 'traîner' (French). There, you've started already, Midlife!
